Don’t just fall behind with the time this weekend, take the time to change your smoke and carbon monoxide alarm batteries.
From the Township of Centre Wellington and Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue
CENTRE WELLINGTON – When you change your clocks behind this weekend …don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Sunday, November 4 marks the end of daylight savings time and Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue Services recommends all residents install a new quality battery in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms this weekend when they change their clocks.
Smoke alarms are required by law to be located outside of every sleeping area and on every floor of your home. Carbon monoxide alarms are also required outside of all sleeping areas if your home is equipped with any fuel burning appliance like an oil, propane or gas burning furnace or if you have a fireplace, woodstove or an attached garage. Both alarm systems require good batteries to function as designed, and only have a lifespan of ten years. The manufacturer date is stamped on all of these life safety alarms.
Fire and carbon monoxide can kill in seconds. Often your first line of defense will be the sound of these life safety alarms. Please ensure your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are in good working order, it’s the law and your life may depend on it.
If you have any questions about fire or carbon monoxide safety please call the Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue Department at 519-843-1950 or visit our website at centrewellington.ca.
