Over 1.25 million people rely on drinking water stored and filtered by moraines, wetlands and headwaters. The province is considering expanding the Greenbelt to include areas that are experiencing significant growth and are under pressure from urban development. By growing the Greenbelt to protect water features we can secure clean water sources for future generations.
On February 1st, 2018, 58 members of the Ontario Greenbelt Alliance are gathering to champion water protection by expanding Ontario’s Greenbelt. Members will be releasing a map that shows where the province needs to extend Greenbelt protection to protect water sources and features at risk from urban expansion and climate change.
