GUELPH – The Guelph Police Service has concluded investigations into two recent complaints of individuals approaching children at the West End Community Centre and determined there are no public safety concerns.
In early October an 11-year-old boy reported he was waiting outside the facility on Imperial Road South when he was approached by a man in a pickup who asked the boy to go with him.
Earlier this month a mother reported her seven-year-old daughter and a younger child were approached during a minor hockey game by a teenaged male who offered them candy to go with him. He was confronted by a parent and left the area after denying he spoke to the children.
Officers with the Guelph Police Service Special Victims Unit took over the investigations and have spoken to all involved parties. In both cases reasonable explanations were offered for the reported conduct and officers do not believe there was any criminal intent in either incident.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious individuals or vehicles to police so they can be fully investigated.
