NEWS RELEASE GUELPH POLICE SERVICE
Seven people have been arrested during a large drug investigation which also saw $28,000 in drugs and two firearms taken off the street.
In the spring, members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit began an investigation into a Cambridge man believed to be trafficking controlled substances in the Guelph and Cambridge areas.
As a result of the investigation police were able to obtain search warrants for three addresses in Guelph, two in Cambridge and three vehicles. Those search warrants were executed earlier this month.
During the investigation – which included the Guelph Police Drug Unit, Intelligence Unit and Tactics and Rescue Unit — approximately $28,000 worth of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and Oxycodone was seized, as well as two firearms and other weapons including prohibited knives, brass knuckles, bear spray and a conducted energy weapon.
Officers also recovered $5,800 in cash and approximately $20,000 worth of suspected stolen property including tools, bicycles and home appliances.
The multi-jurisdictional investigation was also supported by the tactical units of the Waterloo Regional Police Service and Brantford Police Service.
Four men and three women from Guelph and Cambridge face dozens of charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing prohibited weapons and possessing stolen property. All were held for bail hearings.
“On behalf of our community, I would like to thank our members and valued partners for their hard work conducting this investigation,” said Guelph Police Chief Gord Cobey. “Individuals who seek to profit from illegal activities and jeopardize the safety of our residents should expect that the Guelph Police Service and our policing partners will pursue and hold them accountable for their actions.”
