CENTRE WELLINGTON – Wellington County OPP are reminding drivers to stop for school buses with flashing lights, following a traffic stop in Elora.
Police said on Oct. 23 at around 9:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of a motorist who did not stop for a school bus while children were actively being picked up along its typical route on South River Road.
As a result of an investigation, a 39-year-old from Guelph was charged with failing to stop for a school bus.
In a press release police said it is illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped, has its arm extended and its red lights are flashing.
“Not only is passing a stopped school bus illegal and dangerous, but it could also result in a $400-$2,000 fine and six demerit points,” police said.
