WELLINGTON NORTH – About 1,600 pigs have been killed after fire swept through a barn on a farm in Derrynane, just north of Arthur.
Officials with Wellington North Fire Service said the call came in at around 4:37pm Monday on Sideroad 5 East.
In an email to The Grand at 101, Callise Loos WNFS Deputy Fire Chief said 1,599 pigs perished in the fire.
“The damage estimate is set at $1.5 million, origin and cause were not able to be determined due to the extent of the fire,” Loos said.
Firefighters from Minto and Dundalk also assisted Wellington North Fire Service both on scene and to shuttle water to the fire.
Loos said there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
