MAPLETON – 40 cows perished following a cattle barn fire near Alma on the weekend.
Mapleton Fire & Rescue says the call in around 8:59am Sunday morning for a barn fire in the area of 14th line and Sideroad 17 near Alma.
Officials say on arrival the barn was fully involved.
The barn housed approximately 110 cows; 40 cows perished in the fire and 70 cows were rescued from the building.
Approximately 60 firefighters attended the scene.
Officials say Wellington North Fire Service and Minto Fire provided manpower, as well as tanker support.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Mapleton Fire says the fire originated in the second storey of the barn; and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The damage is set at over one million.
