On August 21st, The McGinn Brothers Big Game will be hosting “The Big Assist”, an all day radio-a-thon and fun day full of community events in support of 10 local charities in Centre Wellington.
The 10 groups that will be receiving an equal share of money raised are:
– Big Brothers Big Sisters Centre Wellington
– Canadian Mental Health Association – Centre Wellington
– Centre Wellington Food Bank
– Community Resource Centre
– Elora Legion
– Fergus Legion
– Kids Ability Centre Wellington
– The Fergus Lions Club
– The Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora
– Women in Crisis
The goal is $50,000 in one day.
“For the organizing committee it was about keeping this going. How do we do something impactful that helps out as many people as possible and keep the children engaged with hockey.” Says Abbey Faris, Coordinator of the event. “The McGinn Brothers Big Game has become a community favorite, and I think we owe it to our sponsors and participants that supported us from day 1 to get innovative and put something positive on the calendar for 2020. It has been a tough year for businesses and families so now’s the time to offer a day of shopping local, promoting local business and helping out 10 local groups.”
The continued support of RBC will kick off our day with a BIG donation announcement from Randy Mullin at 9am on The Grand 101.1 FM.
The radio a thon will take place all day from Ecclestone Financial Group building in Fergus, ON. On air personalities will be hosting interviews from current NHL players, celebrity guests and of course the McGinn Brothers. The radio portion of the day will run from 8am-5PM, hoping to have a Grand Total of $50,000 by 5PM.

“We love our community, and with everything that is going on, we just felt we should try and do something to keep the kids busy and help all these community groups that will have a tough year raising money.” Says Jamie McGinn. “We have numerous community groups that have stepped up as well as many of our local sponsors who were willing to help us try something new so we are going to give it a shot”.
Local kids of all ages will have the opportunity to register for the Ron Wilkins Jewellers Big Game online, where teams of 3 can play NHL 20 vs each other in a tournament style format. Kids teams will be paired up with local business sponsors as normal and the winning team will get to play in an online winner take all vs a few surprise NHL players which will be announced closer to the event.

August 21st will be a very busy day in Centre Wellington with a host of things to do and local businesses stepping up with sales initiatives to contribute to the grand total.

The Fergus Optimist Club in partnership with the Fergus Legion will be hosting a bottle drive at the Fergus Legion on August 21st, so save those empties!!!

An online auction for local business services – Local companies to donate services and let the community know what they do – Hosted by Parr Auctions Online
Fan favorite, Stanley Cup Champion and NHL Superstar Ryan O’Reilly has also donated a BIG item to the cause. A meet and greet for up to 10 people for 2 hours at your home or place of business anywhere in North America. This item is being sold on the McGinn Brothers Big Game Website and has already had many inquiries locally and from fans in St. Louis, MO.

A special announcement from Riverfest Elora in regards to their 2021 Lineup will also be made LIVE on the 21st.
