KITCHENER/WATERLOO – Waterloo Regional Police confirm they are investigating 3 separate fires last night as arson.
The fires were set inside three separate retail locations in Kitchener and Waterloo. Shortly after 9 last night, police responded to a report of the merchandise being set on fire inside a Walmart at Ottawa and Fisher Hallman in Kitchener. Around 10:00 p.m. police responded to a second reported fire inside a store in the area of Ottawa and River Road in Kitchener. A third fire was reported at approximately 10:20 p.m. inside a location at Bridgeport and Weber in Waterloo.
Multiple sources report that all 3 retail locations were Walmart stores. Employees at the Sunrise Centre say they saw toilet paper on fire before evacuating the store.
The fires were extinguished and there were no injuries reported.
Both the Kitchener Fire Department and the Waterloo Fire Department say the early damage estimate is set around $4 million per location. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police or Crime Stoppers.
UPDATE:
Continuing to investigate three fires at retail stores in Kitchener and Waterloo.
The fires are being treated as an arson investigation.
