CENTRE WELLINGTON – In May 2019, Centre Wellington Council approved the Transportation Master Plan.
One of the key recommendations of the plan is the implementation and enforcement of timed parking in downtown Fergus and Elora.
The township says the intent of the timed parking is to increase the turnover and availability of prime parking spaces in the downtown areas for the benefit of businesses, shoppers, and tourists.
The pilot will launch on the May long weekend and run to October 31st, with the 3-hour parking enforced 7 days per week between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., with adjustments made as needed.
The township says warning tickets will be issued for the first several weeks as part of the education strategy and Infrastructure Services will be installing the appropriate signage prior to May 24th.
The township will enter into an agreement with the ParkSmart-Alpha Enforcement Team to deliver the services.
The organization currently partners with the County of Wellington to process manual parking tickets and more recently, providing the necessary software and technology to deliver and process parking tickets electronically.
