FERGUS- The province’s Special Investigations Unit continues to investigate the police-involved shooting of a 31-year-old Fergus man.
Wellington County OPP received a call for a domestic disturbance at a residence on Belsyde Avenue East around 11 am on Sunday.
OPP arrived at the scene and began negotiating with a man at the home.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., Kristy Denette with the SIU tells The Grand at 101 there was an interaction between officers and the man.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and an OPP officer was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
When asked if the officer was hit by the knives, the SIU was unable to comment as that is part of the investigation.
As of August 16th in a post to Twitter, the Ontario Provincial Police Association said the officer was in stable condition in hospital.

Four investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU investigates the conduct of officers when a death, serious injury, or sexual assault occurs.
