NEWS RELEASE GUELPH POLICE SERVICE
An ongoing Guelph Police Service investigation has led to arrests in a Guelph shooting and a Cambridge murder.
In October 2021 the Guelph Police Service was called to a Silvercreek Parkway South address where there was a report of a shooting. A victim was found to have serious but non-life threatening injuries. Members of the General Investigations Unit initiated an investigation into the incident. As a result of the lengthy investigation, a suspect was identified that did not reside in Guelph.
On the morning of February 24, 2022, the Guelph Police Service Tactical Unit executed a search warrant in Kitchener relevant to the suspect in that shooting. As a result of the search warrant, a 28-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and multiple firearms charges. A firearm, ammunition, drugs and the stolen vehicle were seized at the residence.
Additionally, a male youth was found inside the residence who was wanted by Waterloo Regional Police for first-degree murder. The youth was arrested and custody was transferred to Waterloo Regional Police Service.
The 28-year-old Kitchener male and the youth were additionally charged jointly with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, further firearms charges and breaches. Approximately $50,000 worth of controlled substances were seized.
“We will work tirelessly to investigate and bring to justice those who commit these brazen acts of violence in our communities,” said Guelph Police Service Chief Gord Cobey. “Today’s arrests are an example of the important and difficult work our members do each day to keep our citizens safe. We would like to thank all the members involved and our policing partners who assisted in this investigation.”
The Kitchener male was held for a bail hearing.
