CENTRE WELLINGTON – This week Centre Wellington Council unanimously supported extending a contract to Archaeological Services Inc. to complete the Official Plan Amendment process to formally recognize the 18 significant cultural heritage landscapes identified in the Cultural Heritage Landscape Study and Inventory.
Mayor Kelly Linton says it is important to maintain valued heritage assets.
The Official Plan Amendment is considered the first to officially recognize the 18 Cultural Heritage Landscapes and establish general policies as an interim measure until more detailed heritage management and protection work can be completed.
Linton says this project also directs the consultant to conduct further analysis and research into the Pierpoint settlement.
The Township says because physical evidence of the settlement has not yet been found, Pierpoint has not been classified as a Cultural Heritage Landscape at this time.
