WELLINGTON COUNTY – With most restrictions lifted across the province, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph’s Top Doctor says COVID cases are beginning to creep up.
At Wednesday’s Board of Health Meeting, Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health says this is not unexpected.
Mercer says she does anticipate cases to continue to rise as we are in the 6th wave of the BA.2 variant. Mercer said severity indicators will continue to be the most important indicators, particularly hospitalizations and deaths.
Mercer says it is important for everyone to stay up to date with their COVID vaccines.
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health announced Wednesday morning it has increased capacity at local clinics over the next several weeks to accommodate newly eligible residents following the provincial announcement regarding Coivd-19 fourth doses.
Ontario residents aged 60 and older who had their first booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least five months ago will be eligible for a second booster dose starting tomorrow.
Appointments will be available through the provincial vaccine portal, some public health units, Indigenous-led vaccination clinics and some pharmacies starting at 8 a.m.
