WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Upper Grand District School Board has noticed an increase in staff absences since the lifting of mask mandates and the return from March Break.
Peter Sovran, Director of Education with the board, says when recently looking at the data, the three weeks prior to the March Break they had an average staff absence rate of 74. He says the three weeks since the March Break their average number of staff absences per day is around 101.
Sovran says with this sixth wave of the pandemic there are possibilities that some things could be impacted.
He says it has been minimal in terms of collapsing or closing classes.
“This sixth wave in particular is really presenting us with a different challenge”. Sovran said.
He says the board will continue to report absences through the end of this school year.
