Details are still to come, but Wellington County council says it will suport a rural residential hospice facility.
The six bed outlet will provide end of life care to county residents and families. It will be built on a two acre parcel of land near Wellington Terrace and Groves Memorial Hospital. The land is being donated by the County.
“Palliative care is a critical component of our health‐care system,” said Mary Lloyd, Information, Heritage and Seniors Committee Chair. “This new rural residential hospice facility will play a vital role by providing support and care to individuals at the end of their lives, and to their families.”
There is still a lot of work to do. Appropriate terms still need to be negotiated and those will come back to council once they are finalized.
However, the securing of a site is a key step to securing more funding. Much of the costs of hospice care are handled by the community. Hospice Wellington will be kicking off a capital campaign in the very near future.
At today’s County Council meeting, Warden Kelly Linton announced the County’s plan to support a rural residential hospice facility on the Wellington Place campus in Aboyne.
The six bed facility will provide palliative care to Wellington County residents and families and will be built on a two‐acre parcel of land near Wellington Terrace and the Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
“County Council is pleased to support the new rural residential hospice facility at Wellington Place,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “This new facility will provide essential end‐of‐life care in a comfortable home‐like space. During palliative care, it is so important that residents have the opportunity to be close to their loved ones and receive the respect, dignity and care they deserve.”
Additional information will be released as it becomes available
