Some answers to your legal dilemmas could be just down the road.
The Law Van, a service of the Guelph and Wellington Legal Clinic is now travelling across Wellington County.
Anthea Millikin, the clinic’s Executive Director says the van’s purpose is simple: To provide access to justice in rural areas.
While many questions might revolve around landlord and tenant disputes, or issues surrounding such things as the Ontario Disability Support Program, Millikin says no question is off limits.
“Every day issues can be legal issues” she says. Millikin says staff pride themselves on giving the best possible answer, and clear steps forward to anyone who has a question.
No appointment is necessary, there is no charge, and the Law Van does not do any kind of income screening. In 2021, the van helped more than 500 people. The project is possible because of the support of numerous partners, including:
- Halton Community Legal Services
- Rural Wellington Community Team
- Wellington County Libraries
- Wellington County Social Services
- Halton Social Services
- VPI Working Solutions (Halton)
- Legal Aid Ontario
It operates five days a week across the county on a rotating schedule. You can find out where the van will be by clicking this link.
