The Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Health unit expects to have small amounts of a pre-exposure vaccine for monkeypox available next week.
Ontario is monitoring 67 confirmed cases of the virus, most of them in Toronto, however local health officials confirmed one case last month.
Based on health ministry criteria, our local health unit is looking to have the vaccine available for pre-exposure use in the next few days. A spokesperson for the health unit says it is working on a program with local partners. It also expects to have small amounts of the vaccine on a rolling basis. That number would be based on eligibility and demand.
Dr. Matthew Tenenbaum, Medical Officer of Health, expects to be able to meet demand locally, and to increase access if needed.
