MEDIA RELEASE GROVES HOSPITAL VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION
GHVA (Groves Hospital Volunteer Association) are very excited to share our plans for a new “New To You (NTY)” Thrift Store facing HWY 6, 950 St. David Street, Fergus adjacent to our current building which will be demolished after the new building is complete. We are delighted to announce that we will be working with Reid’s Heritage Homes of Cambridge (subject to planning approval) who have purchased the land behind our current NTY store and are proposing to develop a new future residential community in Fergus. Reid’s Heritage Home is excited to be able to support GHVA and Groves Memorial Community Hospital in their future plans for the NTY store and other community initiatives.
GHVA intend to use the proceeds from the sale of the land to develop an entirely new building. This new building has been designed with our workflow process in mind to ensure a long-term, optimal working and shopping experience for all. Reid’s Heritage Homes is proposing to offer 112 stacked townhouses which is intended to provide a new built form and help offer a more attainable housing opting for the residents of Fergus.
The proposed NTY building once completed will offer:
- Enhanced shopping experience for our customers and working environment for our tireless volunteer staff who have done an amazing job with the limited space we have today.
- Increase the variety of products available to our customers; as well as, make it easier for donors to drop-off their donations. Our plan includes removal of the current storage containers used today.
- We believe that this will result in an even more successful NTY as the community grows and therefore be able to contribute more to Groves Memorial Hospital.
Reid’s Heritage Home and GVHA have jointly submitted the new development and building plans to the Township of Centre Wellington Planning Department. You can review them here.
The Township will be holding a public meeting on August 31st, 2022 at 6:30pm in the Council Chamber, (1 MacDonald Square, Elora, Ontario) to introduce the new development proposal, GHVA will continue to update the local community via our website and social media channels. As well, we plan to create a Q&A section on our website to help facilitate any questions that the community members may have prior to the Township public meeting on August 31st 2022.
As we proceed with the construction of our new building we fully expect that there will be disruptions which we will do our best to keep to a minimum. We will operate “business as usual” during construction to the best of our ability and we are requesting your patience and continued support. We know these disruptions while inconvenient will be worthwhile in creating an enhanced, long-term solution for the GHVA and ultimately increased support for Groves Memorial Hospital.
