NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at Wellington Road 17 and Eighth Line West.
On January 4, 2022 at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle collision. It was reported that a collision had occurred between a SUV and commercial motor vehicle on Wellington Road 17 at Eighth Line West, near Alma. The Wellington County OPP, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services, and local fire departments attended the scene.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notifications. The driver of the transport truck was uninjured
The Wellington County OPP is continuing to investigate with the assistance of the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team. Wellington Road 17 is closed from County Road 8 to Arthur Street North (Floradale Rod) and Eighth Line West is closed from Wellington Road 17 to Sideroad 5 for the next several hours. Please avoid the area and respect road closure signs.
