WELLINGTON COUNTY – Trustees at the Upper Grand District School Board have voted in favour of sending a letter to the province, asking the government implement further safety measures including the request for stop-arm cameras on school buses.
Ralf Mesenbrink UGDSB Chair says the decision comes as a number of trustees have received emails from parents regarding safety concerns at bus stops.
In a December 13th, 2022 Wellington County OPP news release, police said they received multiple reports in the Town of Erin of vehicles failing to stop for school buses when the bus had their overhead lights activated and stop arm extended, during the boarding of students.
Mesenbrink says as a result of the emails from parents the board has voted unanimously in favour of sending a letter to the province’s minister of education and attorney general.
The Stop-arm cameras are installed on school bus stop-arms, the barriers that come out with a stop sign when students are getting on and off the bus, to help them safely cross the road.
