WELLINGTON COUNTY – A report from an Aberfoyle well shows the amount of water taken in 2022 has reached a level not seen since 2018.
According to BlueTriton Brands’ annual monitoring report, the total volume of water taken in 2022 from its Aberfoyle site officially known as TW3-80 was 672 million litres, that’s around 51% based on the company’s provincial water bottling permit.
In 2018, 676 million litres was taken which is closer to the amount taken in 2022.
The report notes that BlueTriton had to limit water taking for half of 2022 due to the Grand River Low Water Response Team declaring a Level 1 Low Water Condition for the entire Grand River Watershed in June and then increased to a Level 2 Low Water Condition in July.
The company says it limits water takings to 90% of the monthly maximum permitted volume during the Level 1 condition and 80% during Level 2 conditions.
BlueTriton also has a well in Erin called TW1-88 and is considered a supplemental supply to the Aberfoyle water supply.
According to the report the company took about 28 million litres or 7% of its permitted amount in 2022.
A public meeting will be held on May 18th from 10am-12pm at the Puslinch Community Centre regarding BlueTrition’s monitoring reports.
