The ongoing termite issue in Centre Wellington saw progress that left some residents who attended last night’s council meeting feeling hopeful.
Council voted to go ahead with the second of two options that were presented.
Option one was to continue the currently deployed passive approach to termite management.
The second option, that council voted in favour of, will allow for a request for a proposal to initiate a proactive termite management program, subject to the successful award of the request.
Township resident Ian MacRae spoke to how destructive termites have been in the area, and said fixing damage doesn’t come at a bargain.
Elora resident Tammy Rutherford spoke at the meeting and told The Grand at 101 that termite management needs to be an all-hands-on-deck effort.
She said the decision is equally important to surrounding homes and hopes the new plan will stop the spread before it worsens.
The township has tried addressing termites in the past.
In August of last year, the previous council, approved entering negotiations with Balson Preventative Solutions Inc. at a limit of $200,000.
An agreement could not be reached between the township and pest control company which led to no action was taken.
