Delegates at last night’s public meeting didn’t appear pleased with a proposal for 118 single detached homes near Belwood Lake.
The township meeting was held to provide an opportunity for residents to hear about the proposal as well as one for an apartment building in Fergus.
The development near Belwood Lake would replace an older nine-hole golf course with the homes being integrated as part of an existing 18-hole course on Wellington Road 19 between Second and Third Line.
Leanne Iravani, who lives on Third Line, had a long list of issues with how the proposed subdivision could impact to the local environment.
The proposal claims a communal wastewater treatment facility would reduce water usage by 20-25%.
The meeting also went over the proposal for a five-storey apartment building on St. Andrew Street East in Fergus.
Current zoning only allows for three.
One resident who lives on the street, Shawn Meunier, says he is shocked by the lack of thought that went into how the building would affect the local landscape.
He also says that bylaws are designed to protect residents.
This is the second public meeting this month to discuss housing development proposals that would require zoning bylaw amendments to move forward.
