Vaping among youth is a growing concern in Wellington County.
Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, discussed the topic at the board meeting yesterday.
Dr. Mercer says public health officials have visited all high schools in the region, and every single school said vaping was an issue.
She says one concern is young people are bringing vapes and products into schools, where it is hard to control.
According to Dr. Mercer, it is very easy for young people to access the products.
A recent study showed 20% of vape stores that were test-shopped, sold to minors.
She explained that the long-term effects of vaping, are rather unknown, and that Public Health received more complaints about vape sales in the last year compared to the past five years combined.
