With the June 5th commenting deadline rapidly approaching for the new Proposed Provincial Planning Statement (PPS), Centre Wellington council is finalizing plans for their response.
The heavily discussed PPS proposes building residential lots on agricultural land.
A presentation from the Wellington Federation of Agriculture estimated over 82,000 lots could be built on mainly prime agricultural land within Wellington County.
The report was presented to council last night and will be used as a basis for the township’s collective letter.
Brett Salmon, township Managing Director of Planning and Development, is concerned about the impact of severed lots on farmland.
Salmon explains that this PPS could eliminate growth plans.
The report responds to each pillar of the PPS.
Council’s decision was to circulate their letter to member municipalities within Wellington County.
