A pair of Fergus and Elora proposed developments had slightly different receptions at a Wednesday night public meeting. While the Fergus development received minimal concern from council and no delegations, the Elora proposal was met with concerns from a neighbouring citizen and council as well.
77 McQueen Boulevard in Fergus was the first proposed development to be discussed. The developer is seeking a zoning amendment to change the land from “IN” Institutional to “R4” Residential land to permit the construction of a 100-unit apartment building. While a few capacity concerns were voiced by council, no delegations were made.
The Elora proposed development hopes to make a zoning amendment as well in order to build a series of 273 townhouses at 350 Wellington Road 7.
Neighbouring farm property owner Melinda Croft raised some concerns over the development, namely her worries about the safety of the road.
Croft hopes a traffic light will be considered in addition to the planned crosswalk.
She also is hesitant about water run-off on the property. The developer responded by noting that well water will be monitored before during and after construction.
Both developments will be discussed again by council at a later date.
