FERGUS – The farmhouse at 965 Gartshore Street Fergus is fully furnished and soon to be housing healthcare professionals.
The home is being dubbed a community effort by all, as volunteers and township staff alike were a part of the effort to prepare it.
Angela Stanley, president and CEO of the Wellington Healthcare Alliance says the past few years have been challenging for Groves Memorial Community Hospital as they continue to experience a need for healthcare staff.
She believes Centre Wellington needs to remain competitive with what other communities offer in terms of giving potential recruits a great community experience.
Three individuals are already booked for the month of June and will be staying for a week respectively.
Stanley says taking the stress off these workers to find a place to stay is a huge plus.
Mayor of Centre Wellington Shawn Watters was on hand for a tour of the farmhouse Wednesday, and says for up-and-coming doctors, these kinds of accommodation are ideal.
Locums and other healthcare professionals will stay at the farmhouse property while they work locally. Four people will be able to stay in the farmhouse at a time, and Stanley says the length of stay varies based on individual staff situations.
