The Township of Centre Wellington could be upping the frequency of garbage pickup in the downtown cores of Fergus and Elora.
At yesterday’s Solid Waste Services Committee meeting, Mayor Shawn Watters says local BIAs and councillors have presented issues with the biweekly pickup model, and the Township is trying to address those concerns.
Watters says the estimated cost of the weekly collection in those areas is about $17,000 per year.
The project, being referred to as a pilot of sorts by Mayor Watters and Township staff, will be re-evaluated at the beginning of next year.
The change will need to be approved by Township council before getting full approval.
