CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Township of Centre Wellington is revisiting the idea of opting into Ontario’s cannabis retail program.
At an April council meeting, a notice of motion was made by Ward 5 Councillor Bronwynne Wilton, directing staff to prepare a report for Council’s consideration.
This followed a February committee of the whole meeting, where two delegates including John Mifsud, a cannabis advocate, and Diane Ballantyne, Ward 6 Wellington County Councillor, asked council to revisit cannabis retail legislation in Centre Wellington.
In 2019, council decided to opt out of allowing cannabis retail locations to open or operate within the township, but recently council has shown an interest in re-visiting the decision.
Centre Wellington staff are conducting an opinion survey on privately-owned retail cannabis stores in the municipality.
The township says the results of the survey will assist in Council’s decision-making process.
