Cannabis continues to be a hot topic not only in Centre Wellington, but across the County as well.
In an April Centre Wellington council meeting, cannabis retail stores, and their possible integration into the community was discussed. Recently, the township has opened the door for feedback from locals with a Private Cannabis Retail Survey.
Meanwhile, last night, Wellington North council pondered the growth of cannabis and possible new regulations in the township.
A new bylaw would permit cannabis and hemp growth on agricultural land in the township on any property over 25 acres.
500 metres of separation from a settlement area, and 300 metres from sensitive land use is required for outdoor growth in the proposed bylaw.
Councillor Penny Renken wasn’t so sure that’s enough room.
Renken also said she’s dealt with, and felt the effects of odours from cannabis before.
The bylaw, however, was passed 3 to 1, and the three cannabis zones suggested: residential, agricultural and industrial, will now require a bylaw amendment.
A report noted that this bylaw does not further regulate the personal growing regulation of four plants.
