A big tax increase could be coming to Centre Wellington, according to a report presented to council on Monday.
The document projects taxes will increase by at least 6.7%.
Township staff noted, however, that at the time of writing the report, inflation continues to drop. It is likely that 2023 Township costs will increase at a rate lower than 6.7%.
Councillor Barb Evoy says she is not opposed to the increase, yet she recognizes this increase won’t be easy, specifically for certain demographics within the community.
Councillor Bronwynne Wilton says she gets that it’s early in the process but hopes to protect township services that benefit the community.
For the capital budget, costs are projected to be 12.3% higher in 2024 in comparison to 2023.
However, staff’s approach in establishing the draft Capital Budget is to have detailed estimates completed on most significant capital projects in 2023, so that cost projections are more accurate and based on market values.
The process will be a lengthy one, with budget approval set for December 18th of this year.
