Costs have risen for a wastewater project in Erin that came as a shock to some councillors. The project’s costs have risen from $69 million to $129 million as it’s evolved.
Construction includes a road closure on Trafalgar Road leading to detours and a wastewater resource recovery facility on County Road 52. The construction will see an Erin village gravity sewer with eight shafts along main street.
Council was presented with a picture of the proposed work, and many were taken aback. Councillor Cathy Aylard for one said she has experience with this type of work but struggled to believe the layout of the construction.
Nick Colucci, director of infrastructure services, reiterated Erin’s layout would look very different than the image provided.
Construction is underway, though future work involving the installation of several sewers across a large stretch of land still awaits following the securement of government funding.
The Elora cataract trail gravity sewer will start with tree clearing and underground servicing.
Council received the report from Colucci for information.
