Five bridges in the former township of Pilkington will be evaluated as many are deteriorating and have been closed to the public for years.
Councillor Lisa MacDonald pointed out at Centre Wellington council today that some of them were constructed as long ago as 2004 and 2006.
Mayor Shawn Watters, however vouched for the importance of these bridges.
Council will begin a lengthy process involving four options including permanent closure, rehabilitation, or replacement for each of the five structures that were deemed a public safety risk.
That requires a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Study.
According to the report that was before council today, many will be consulted throughout the process, including external agencies, Indigenous Communities, and township council and committees.
The report also states the structures are currently closed to vehicular traffic due to their state. The study will evaluate the role of these structures within the transportation network, connectivity in the local community and determine the most suitable alternative at each location.
The timeline is set to be complete by spring of next year.
