The Township of Centre Wellington finalized the lease agreement yesterday for the farmhouse on Gartshore Street in Fergus that has been providing temporary residence for doctors and other locums working in the community.
Township CAO Dan Wilson says all has gone smoothly in the early operations of the farmhouse’s use.
In February, a healthcare recruitment committee was formed for Groves Memorial Hospital and developed an overall approach to health care professional recruitment. The first part of the township’s strategy was to provide accessible living spaces for newly recruited healthcare professionals.
Mayor Shawn Watters was thrilled with the signing of the lease, and says he was proud council had the wherewithal to recognize what would be best for the community.
The property, at which these medical professionals pay no rent, will be leased without a charge to Groves Memorial Hospital until May 31st, 2024.
