The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission has submitted its final report about the redrawing of federal riding boundaries across Canada after nearly a year of public meetings and input from MP’s.
This includes changes to the Wellington-Halton Hills riding.
The changes do not affect Centre Wellington, however, the newly named Wellington-Halton Hills North riding will now include south Guelph and remove Georgetown.
A new riding, Milton East-Halton Hills South, has been formed for Georgetown and an area south of the town.
The report was sent to the chief electoral officer and tabled in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
“In concluding this federal electoral district redistribution for the province of Ontario, the Commission wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the many members of the public who took part in this undertaking that is such an important part of Canada’s democratic process,” said the Honourable Justice Lynne C. Leitch, Chair of the Commission in a press release.
The commission says the Chief Electoral Officer will use the electoral boundaries described in the report in drafting the representation order, which should become official in September 2023.
At the next federal election, the new riding boundaries will take effect.
