WELLINGTON COUNTY – Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington is looking to connect with more families in Fergus, Elora, and surrounding communities, who are looking for ways to get into home ownership.
In April, Centre Wellington Council approved Habitat’s plan to build 32 three-storey stacked townhouse residential units at 465 Garafraxa Street West in Fergus.
Kathryn Stokes, Manager of Housing Partnerships, says as they grow the number of housing options in the community, they also need to connect with more local families in need of housing.
Stokes says there are three elements they look at when considering a family, including the need for affordable housing, applicants also need to have a stable employment income, and the willingness to partner and contribute to a certain amount of volunteer hours with Habitat.
She says they are accepting applications for housing not just for today, but for future projects as well.
With the 32 units being built in Fergus, and over 200 units in planning or underway over the next 3-5 years, Stokes says Habitat is growing to meet this demand head-on, and is looking to connect with a wider range of families in need of housing.
