ELORA – Elora was the site today for the official unveiling of a $20 million swine research centre.
Per a news release from the University of Guelph, the research centre will enhance the capacity for research, innovation and the development of new technology to benefit Ontario pork producers and consumers.
The $20-million investment includes $1.75 million from the Government of Canada through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, with the remainder provided by the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario (ARIO) and Ontario’s pork industry.
Representatives of the University of Guelph, the Government of Ontario, the Government of Canada and Ontario Pork were on hand for the ribbon cutting this afternoon.
Minister of Agriculture Lisa Thompson as well as Wellington North Mayor and county warden Andy Lennox were featured guests.
The U of G release also states the new centre will accommodate research in diverse disciplines, including nutrition, animal health and welfare, production economics, consumer-oriented research, environmental factors, and much more.
