ELORA- McDonald’s is one step closer to opening on Wellington Road 7 in Elora.
At a Monday meeting, Centre Wellington council removed a holding zone symbol on the lands, permitting the redevelopment of the front portion of the property for the purpose of the restaurant and a stand-alone drive through.
Township Manager of Planning Services, Mariana Iglesias, reminded council the process is still in the early stages.
The new McDonald’s will be located at 94 Wellington Road 7 which is the front portion, and phase 2 of the project would include a proposed grocery store at 22 Park Road on the rear portion of the property.
Iglesias went on to say the holding was put on the land for three reasons.
In a June public meeting, Debra Kropf owner of Geddes Street Market in Elora opposed the development, and shared concerns regarding the challenges of finding employees. Meanwhile, local resident Dushan Divjak supported the grocery store portion of the development, stating more competition in the industry helps control prices.
The next steps will include the application for required building permits from the owner.
