FERGUS – Several locals presented concerns and expressed frustration towards a proposed development just off Highway 6 at last night’s public meeting in Centre Wellington.
The subject property is located at 961 St. David Street North in Fergus.
The developers are seeking a zoning bylaw amendment in order to rezone the lands to R1C single detached and R3 street townhouse units. The proposed condominium would be 49 units.
Neighbouring property owners Jackie and Marcel Feenstra were steadfast against the ‘L’-shaped condominium, due in part to concerns with the peaceful enjoyment of their property, and issues with wildlife.
Marcel Feenstra for one wants to preserve what he expressed is beginning to be lost in Fergus: green space.
Jackie Feenstra was concerned about possible trespassing issues. The developer responded by saying fencing measures would be implemented.
One of her biggest issues however was traffic, and difficulties navigating due to high volumes.
Councillor Lisa MacDonald also shared traffic worries, proposing the idea of a roundabout.
The L-shaped condominium would see 12 single-detached units and 37 street townhouse dwellings.
Council will revisit the development and potential zoning bylaw amendment at a future council meeting.
