ARTHUR – Wellington North Fire (WNFS) responded to a Smith Street structure fire at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Per a social media post from the fire service, the building was a commercial unit with a restaurant on the main floor and basement apartments.
All were able to evacuate safely with no reported injuries.
The post did regret to inform two dogs and two cats were lost due to smoke from the fire.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but it is suspected it began in the basement. There is no estimate on damage yet.
Around fifteen firefighters from both WNFS stations, Arthur and Mount Forest were present at the fire. Wellington North Fire would like to remind the public of the importance of knowing where exits are when entering a business for the first time in case of fire.
