FERGUS – Centre Wellington Township will issue a notice of intent to designate the “Pierpoint Fly Fishing Nature Reserve” as a significant cultural heritage landscape.
At Monday’s meeting, council gave staff the go ahead to begin the process to designate the property municipally known as 255 Lamond Street, in Fergus. The property is owned by the Township and serves as a passive municipal park and nature reserve for public use.

Mariana Iglesias, Manager of Planning Services says the notice of intent to designate the land will go out to the public first, where there will be an appeal period, and then provide a no appeals are received.
Council approved the recommendation, and also gave the go ahead for staff to proceed with establishing a Pierpoint Community Working Group through the Healthy Communities Advisory Committee.
Iglesias, says the group will work on several logistical items.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Centre Wellington’s committee of the whole approved Parks Canada’s installation of a plaque to recognize Richard Pierpoint at “Pierpoint Fly Fishing Nature Reserve”.
The plaque will be unveiled in early October to coincide with Culture Days Centre Wellington.
