WELLINGTON COUNTY – As a mental health support within the junior hockey community celebrates its tenth season, its organizers attribute the program’s success to growth.
Talk Today training has rebranded, and Katrina Burch of CMHA Waterloo Wellington, who is closely connected with the program, says it has been well-utilized.
She says the newly branded program allows athletes to learn about the ups and downs of life, not just the win-loss column on the ice.
Burch says the most important message is to understand the importance of the connection between mental and physical health.
She added it’s important to decrease the stigma within the hockey community, to help young athletes under immense pressure maintain their mental wellbeing.
The training is not only with players, but also coaches, staff, and billets.
Burch went on to say the thought of expanding the services is there, it’s just about making connections with partners within the landscapes of lacrosse, ringette and more.
