GUELPH – A Belwood man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of a 74-year-old man over three years ago.
In 2020 Kyle Gemin was charged with second-degree murder of George Gemin.
The 12-member jury delivered its verdict Thursday evening in a Guelph Superior Court following deliberation.
In July, 2020, OPP responded to an address on Poplar Place in Belwood to check on the well-being of the occupant. Police say when they gained entry into the home they located a deceased male and ruled the death a homicide.
The next day, Kyle Gemin was named the suspect and arrested.
Initially, Gemin was charged with first-degree murder, but the charge was later reduced to second-degree murder.
As a result of the conviction comes an automatic life sentence, with parole eligibility between 10 and 25 years.
