UPPER GRAND – Elementary Teacher’s Federation of Ontario (ETFO) members recently voted 95 per cent in favour of a strike.
Members have been without a contract for longer than a year, and a local representative concurs with ETFO’s president, that the government is stalling.
ETFO members are tired of waiting, says Krista Pedersen, President of Upper Grand ETFO.
Pedersen says while progress is being made, negotiations are still ongoing, with dates set for as early as this week.
Pedersen explains what ETFO hopes to gain from negotiations has not changed since they applied for conciliation, a process in which a professional facilitator assists employers and employees to resolve disputes.
Pedersen added the 95 per cent figure sends a clear message to the government, and says she remains hopeful conciliation will lead to an agreement.
