SALEM – A proposed development in Salem was not greeted with open arms by residents at a public meeting Wednesday in Centre Wellington.
Several locals shared concerns about the proposal, which would include 286 homes being built on 30 acres of land south of Woolwich Street East and west of Irvine Street.
Developer Cachet Developments Inc, were met with worries from those living close by the proposed development, including adjacent property owner Karen Turner.
Turner, who voiced issues with traffic flow, also raised questions about the impact of construction on those whose homes run on local well water.
Cameron Miller, who lives on Bricker Avenue, which would back onto the development, shared he doesn’t want to see any more farmland lost.
Miller said he worries about losing something valuable: locally sourced food.
The proposal has seen several updates that were brought forward at the public meeting, including the addition of a larger, more central park the developer says would be accessible to existing and future residents.
If approved, the development would consist of a mixture of single detached and townhouse dwelling units as well as the parkland, and would require a by-law amendment.
It will return to council for decision at a later meeting.
