WELLINGTON COUNTY – A council meeting Thursday morning in Wellington County saw another step taken towards a new physician recruitment strategy.
The county has had locally initiated programming such as Wellington Health Care Recruitment that has served Centre Wellington, Mapleton-Minto region and Mount Forest and surrounding area since 2004.
However, a report presented to council at the meeting states the county has not been involved in a coordinated physician recruitment effort.
The program, led by Guelph Wellington Health Team, was appealing to many councillors, including Gregg Davidson, who stated there could be cooperation between this new initiative and the existing strategies.
Davidson says it’s not the easiest ask to bring doctors and nurses to smaller communities.
Council provisionally approved $50,000 in the 2024 budget to facilitate the program.
