CENTRE WELLINGTON – A report to be presented at an upcoming Centre Wellington Council meeting includes a recommendation for the township to enter into a licensing agreement with the City of Owen Sound.
The agreement would allow the operation of Guelph Owen Sound Transportation (GOST) service providing affordable, twice a day between Guelph and Owen Sound.
The routes on Highway 6 include:
•Fergus to Guelph Central Station is $5.00 one way
•Fergus to Owen Sound Transit Terminal is $20.00 one way
•Elora to Guelph Central Station is $5.00 one way
•Elora to Owen Sound Transit Terminal is $20.00 one way
According to the report in May of 2018, the city of Owen Sound received a provincial grant of upwards to $1.4 million toward the bus connection.
Earlier this year the province announced that funding for the service was being extended to August of 2025.
The report notes to this point the GOST operations have been ongoing without a license agreement in place for the bus service to make stops in Centre Wellington. “The stop locations within the Township are located in Elora (in the parking lot at 25 Metcalfe Street), and in Fergus (in the parking lot of the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex – located at 550 Belsyde Avenue East).”
The report says the City of Owen Sound has reached out with a license agreement to support operations of the service.
Staff will recommend council enter into the agreement at Monday’s council meeting.
