ELORA – Council meetings in Centre Wellington will soon be hybrid, but the meeting schedule for 2024 was not approved at council yesterday.
The move to a hybrid format was welcomed by many councillors as it will make meetings more accessible. Some, though, including Mayor Shawn Watters, did voice concerns about a lack of attendance in the new setup that will allow staff to be present virtually.
Watters stated he concurred with several comments made from staff concerned about making the meetings more accessible.
Following the approval of that recommendation, staff discussed the 2024 meeting schedule. CAO Dan Wilson tabled a document that removed committee of the whole meetings entirely, and would have two council meetings a month.
Many options including more frequent but shorter meetings, and sticking with the presented schedule were suggested, but Watters said he was confident resolution will be found.
Lisa MacDonald was the only opposition to the motion that will see council re-evaluate the schedule at a later date.
