ELORA – Following extensive renovations and a renaming, the Jefferson Elora Community Centre is ready to re-open its doors on Wednesday, November 29.
Renovations included a fresh rink and lobby as well as retain and reuse protective netting.
A media release from the township of Centre Wellington says the soft opening will offer dressing rooms for on-ice users, the ice surface, bleachers, the lobby and restrooms.
Other upgrades include a new refrigeration system and accessibility upgrades in order to meet AODA standards.
Some amenities like the community hall and the score clock may not be available until January 2024.
The extra ice that will be offered from November 29 to December 30 will be allocated to minor sports organizations first, followed by adult recreation leagues.
Matt Tucker, township manager of facilities, says while the ice goes to minor sports groups first, he’s happy to get to share the space with adults too.
Tucker added since construction, finding ice hasn’t been easy, and he can’t wait to be able to offer it again.
A grand opening to celebrate the project will take place in early 2024.
